Take Your Mask Off

This powerful message confronts a dangerous trend in modern Christianity: replacing the objective truth of God's Word with our subjective feelings. Drawing from Matthew 4:1-11, we explore how Jesus faced three temptations in the wilderness that mirror the same tactics the enemy used in the Garden of Eden. The devil attacks us through the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—three masks we hide behind that keep us in bondage. What's remarkable is that Jesus responds to each temptation with the same phrase: 'It is written.' He doesn't argue with feelings or negotiate with circumstances; He stands firmly on Scripture. This teaching challenges us to examine whether we've made our feelings our God, whether we've replaced biblical authority with therapeutic culture that says 'my truth' and 'my feelings' are ultimate reality. The path to freedom isn't found in validating every emotion or cutting off everyone who challenges us, but in confessing our sins, trusting Christ's finished work, and anchoring ourselves in the unchanging Word of God. We're reminded that we're not fighting for victory—we're fighting from victory, because Christ has already defeated the enemy on our behalf.
