Life In The Vine

What does it mean to truly belong to something greater than ourselves? In John 15:1-11, Jesus makes one of His most intimate and personal declarations, calling Himself the true vine and inviting us into a life of deep, abiding connection with Him. Drawing on imagery that was woven into the identity and history of God's people, from the psalms of Israel to the golden carvings above the temple gates, this message unpacks what it looks like to actually live as a branch connected to that vine. The central truth is both simple and profound: apart from Christ, we can produce nothing of lasting value. Every pursuit, every effort to find fulfillment outside of Him, leads us chasing something just out of reach. But when we remain in Him, something remarkable happens. The Father, acting as the vinedresser, works carefully and intentionally in our lives, pruning away what is dead or harmful so that what remains can grow fuller, healthier, and more fruitful. That pruning is rarely comfortable, but it is always purposeful. This message invites us to stop resisting that process and instead plant our feet firmly in the promises of Christ, trusting that the same God who spoke creation into being is faithful to grow real, lasting fruit in our lives.
