New Year, New Start || Pt. I

Jan 4, 2026    Pastor Shawn Bowman

This powerful message invites us into a radical understanding of what it means to have a fresh start in the new year. Drawing from Colossians 3:1-4, we're challenged to move beyond the typical cycle of failed resolutions and into something transformative: purposely thinking heavenly thoughts. The core revelation here is that we've already been raised with Christ, already seated with Him in heavenly places. This isn't something we work toward or earn through religious performance. Martin Luther's story about his students trying to pray the Lord's Prayer without distraction illustrates our universal struggle: our minds are constantly pulled toward earthly concerns, worries, and old patterns. Whether it's marriage struggles, health issues, career anxieties, or past addictions, we all face things we can't stop thinking about. The breakthrough comes when we realize that our life is already hidden with Christ in God. We've been co-resurrected with Him. This means the battle is already won, and our final destination is secure. When we truly grasp these promises, we stop trying to work our way to heaven and start falling in love with Jesus the way we once fell in love with our spouse, thinking about Him constantly, not out of duty but out of genuine affection and gratitude for what He's already accomplished for us.
