Rewired by Christ

As we enter the Lenten season, we're invited to examine not just what we do, but why we do it. This message challenges us to move beyond viewing Lent as mere ceremony or a second chance at failed New Year's resolutions, and instead see it as a profound opportunity for spiritual inventory through the lens of the gospel. The exploration of Jesus' temptation in Matthew 4:1-11 reveals that our struggles are both unique to us and universal to humanity. Jesus faced temptation after 40 days of fasting in the wilderness, and the devil's strategy was clear: try to get Jesus to claim His crown without first enduring the cross. We face the same temptation in our own lives—seeking shortcuts to glory, looking for the path of least resistance in our faith walk. The powerful truth we discover is that while God ordains our testing, He never inflicts our temptations. Like Job, we may face tremendous trials, but God's hand restrains the enemy and preserves us. Our temptations often strike when our flesh is weakest—in isolation, in moments of vulnerability, when we're spiritually depleted. But we're given the same weapon Jesus used: the shield of Scripture. When we stand together as believers, our individual shields form an impenetrable fortress against the enemy's attacks. Most importantly, we're reminded that our temptations are tough but temporary, and through Christ, we are more than conquerors.
